Three Lions - Football Songs

Ultimate Football Playlist – The Top 10 Songs For Your Football Party!

With EURO 2016 rapidly aproaching, we have gone footy mad here at Partyrama HQ!  As part of the fun, we have created a playlist for our football parties this summer – light the barbecue, don those football shirts and turn the stereo up to 11 – here we go!

1. Baddiel & Skinner – Three Lions

The ultimate football song (in our humble opinion) – Three Lions captured the imagination of the English public on its release for EURO ’96, firmly cementing itself as THE number one England football anthem.  Essential for any English football party!

2. Fat Les – Vindaloo

Originally recorded for Englands World Cup campaign in 1998, Vindaloo started off as a parody of football chants but become a well loved chant in it’s own right.  The video was an excellent parody of The Verve’s Bitter Sweet Symphony – a great football song that still goes down a treat today.

3. Ragga Twins & Stereotypz – Do It For England

A little more obscure, but awesome nonetheless.  Legendary jungle emcees The Ragga Twins hooked up with drum & bass producers Stereotypz to create this jump up England  anthem.  While not the most popular of songs, we heard this a long time ago and it became an instant hit on our football party playlists.  Check it out and have a little rave up!

4. Ant & Dec – We’re On The Ball

Another England World Cup classic featuring your favourite Geordie television presenters, We’re On The Ball was released as the official England song for the 2002 World Cup.  Rising to third in the charts on release (and only beaten to the top spot by Gareth Gates & Will Young respectively), We’re On The Ball was a huge success and is a welcome addition to our party playlist.

5. Manic Street Preachers – Together, Stronger (C’Mon Wales)

The Welsh song for EURO 2016, we had to include the Manic Street Preachers song to the playlist (by demand of the Welsh contingent of the Partyrama office).  While not the best song on this list by any stretch of the imagination, any song that sings about Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale has to make the list.  Classic?  Possibly not, but we’ve never heard a Welsh football song before so this had to make the list.

6. White Stripes – Seven Nation Army

The ultimate party song that has been converted into 519,036 football chants and counting, no football gathering (or even sporting event) would be complete without the White Stripe’s most famous and epic riff.  I’m not sure that anyone knows the actual words of the song, but chanting “DUNNNNNN, DUN DUN DUN DUNN DUNNNNN, DUNNNNNNN” is possibly the most fun you can have while watching sport.  Classic.

7. UEFA Champions League Anthem

The ultimate pre-game theme song, the UEFA Champions League theme gives goosebumps whenever it is played before a big game.  If you weren’t nervous and excited before, this epic piece of music truly sets the scene and gets you ready for the match.

8. Carl Orff – O Fortuna

It’s the semi finals of the tournament.  You’re playing Germany.  You’ve held them to a draw at full time.  Extra time passes, and suddenly with dread you realise that you are facing penalties.  Against the Germans.  Again.  Cue Carl Orff’s O Fortuna and the overwhelming sense of dread.  Not this again… here we go… gulp…

9. The Streets – Dry Your Eyes

Yep, it happened.  The unofficial anthem for crashing out of the tournament (predictably) on penalties.  Dry Your Eyes, pop yourself on the plane home and hide out for weeks until the new season begins.  Or sign a deal with Pizza Hut to mock yourself for missing THAT penalty.  Yes Gareth Southgate, we’re looking at you.  Pass the tissues.

10. Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

If the above scenario happens, here is our final recommendation for your football playlist.  Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive is the perfect anthem for moving on from the disappointment of supporting your nation in a major sporting event.  Plus the league starts again soon.  WE WILL SURVIVE!

Bonus Song – Liverpool FC – Anfield Rap

No football song list ever would be complete without John Barnes next level rap skills… Eminem, be afraid.  Be very afraid…
