Ideas & Tips For Great Sparkler Photos
Adults and kids alike love sparklers – they look pretty cool and you can create some amazing photographs with them too.
In this blog, we’re serving you up some inspo for creating some really fun sparkler photos that all the family will enjoy creating this Bonfire Night!
But, before we get into that, we wanted to just add that whilst sparklers are an awful lot of fun, they often get overlooked as being potentially hazardous.
Sparklers burn at temperatures equivalent to a welding torch and so great care is required, especially where children are involved.
Please ensure you follow these top tips to ensure you and your family stay safe and injury-free!
- It is recommended that sparklers are not given to under-5s
- Make sure everyone handling sparklers wears gloves
- Hold sparklers at arm’s length while being lit and light them one at a time
- Don’t wave sparklers about close to other people
- Never hold a baby in your arms while you are holding a sparkler
- When the sparkler has finished put it in a bucket of cold water.

Now, we can get on to the fun stuff!
What you’ll need to create your stunning sparkler photographs:
- Tripod (or a sturdy platform for your camera/phone)
- Camera or smartphone with long exposure settings
- Sparklers (buy more than you think you’ll need!)
- Lighter
- Bucket of water
There are loads of tutorials on how to set your smartphone to a long exposure setting, so all you’ll need to do is Google your phone make/model and find the quick steps to adjust your phone!
Now for some sparkler photo inspo!
Why not create your own 2022 image ready for NYE? This is a great way to create custom social content or a pretty printable image for the New Year that you can pop into a frame!
This is a sweet one to do with your family!
As you’ve spotted in the photo, and similar to the “2022” shot – you may need a few family members involved so you can each draw up a letter or number, otherwise it’s a bit tricky trying to write out the whole thing on your own!
Here’s an idea – create an image like the above, and turn it into a custom Valentines Day card, come Feb 14th? Just a thought!
Now this one is really cool! Will you give it a try? You could even try creating angel wings and turn it into a Christmas card! (Can you tell we like creating custom cards for family & friends?)
Simple hearts… that look really effective!
Just to note, it can take a couple of attempts to get the shot you’re after – so don’t get disheartened if your first snaps don’t turn out perfect right away. Enjoy experimenting and make sure you wrap up warm because it’s a lot of fun once you’re on a roll!
Would you like to see a couple of the pictures we created?
We’d love to see if you create any sparkler art this weekend – if you do, tag us @partyramauk !
